It's a rarity to witness the reclusive Inverpollaidh Haggis in the wild (all of the shop bought Haggis is farmed in Scandinavia), but I managed to creep up on this slumbering family on the slopes of Stac Pollaidh on a cold autumn dawn. Like other Highland species (such as the Ptarmigan, whose plumage turns white in winter), the Inverpollaidh Haggis has an adaptive camouflage system - as the days shorten and become cooler, their long spikey hair mimics the autumn colours of the hillside, protecting them against their many predators. I resisted the temptation to bag one for breakfast, satisfying myself with this image instead.
